Four years post-pandemic, employers advocating for return-to-office mandates face potential employee alienation, as over half of Canadian workers prefer some form of remote work, a LinkedIn survey reveals.
The survey, conducted from September to December 2023 with 2,658 Canadian professionals, found 58% favour either a hybrid (33%) or fully remote (25%) work setup, significantly higher than the 20% working from home as per a Statistics Canada report. Meanwhile, 39% prefer mostly onsite work. This preference varies by age, with Gen Z and millennials favouring hybrid models, Gen X leaning towards fully remote, and boomers preferring onsite work.
The trend also reflects a desire for flexibility among parents and an environmental benefit, potentially reducing household greenhouse gas emissions by 12%.
